AdBlue Contamination

Throughout Hampshire we have noticed progressively more instances of AdBlue contamination when a person has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel tank. This is partly due to drivers being unsure of how to work with it (take note: it's not a fuel additive), and partially due to the fact that the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are usually right close to one another on the car.

Well, exactly what is the trouble with putting AdBlue in your diesel tank? Seeing as the product is mostly ionised water, it's as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water do not ever mix in any way and attempting to run a diesel car on water isn't going to work. Also, the urea is particularly corrosive to fuel system hoses and seals and is susceptible to crystallisation, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

If you have put AdBlue into a fuel tank get it drained as quickly as possible. And obviously don't start the vehicle - not even to shift it into a parking place. In case you have started the vehicle you may very likely need to have the full fuel system flushed and filters changed out.

Fuel contaminated with water

Water contaminated fuel, regardless of whether it's unleaded or diesel, is certainly an important situation to deal with in a car - particularly in modern common-rail engines. Water in fuel can easily lead to idling problems, irregular running, abnormal smoke and, if it's not sorted out effectively, oftentimes broken injectors.
